System for control of railway traffic - uses details of train itinerary and time tables together with decision rules to aid preparation of route diagram

The rail traffic control system has a facility for entry of data on trains brought into service. A file (78) stores predetermined decision rules concerning the protocols for approaching and leaving each station in the network. A simulation program (76) estimates the time of arrival and departure of the train by partial simulation using the initial data on the service applied to the route serviced by the train. The results of the simulation are combined with the decision rules to determine the arrival and departure time of the train at each station. A diagram of the service is prepared from these results and transmitted to all the stations on the route. This information is used to control the arrival and departure at each station. ADVANTAGE - Simplifies preparation of network operating diagram and allows easy rescheduling.
