A cable stayed bridge comprises one or more vertical towers (11) with cables (12) extending from tops to the deck (9), composed of main steel longitudinal beams (13) with transverse slabs (16) spanning between. The main beam webs (14) may have sections of wave, sawteeth or alternate trapezia form. Deck slabs are concrete with permanent shuttering on the underside. The tower and beams are fixed to the pier (10) supporting the cabling. Construction process comprises fixing tower to main beams, placing cables and installing same on the pier. Assembly is by crane or launching gantry from one end. USE/ADVANTAGE - Improved design, light structure with usual load capacity, easily handled during erection, cost effective.
