An enzyme of the vegetable laccase type, or an active plant extract contg. it, is used as oxidising agent in a cosmetic. Oxidative dyeing of hair involves application to the hair of (a) a compsn. contg., in a cosmetically acceptable solvent, a precursor of an oxidn. dye contg. 2 amine gps. or 1 amine gp. and 1 OH gp., in p- or o- position to each other, and/or a hydroxy-indole or -indoline derivs., and (b) a compsn. contg. a plant laccase or active plant extract contg. it. USE/ADVANTAGE - Application is in oxidative dyeing or permanent shaping of hair. Use is simple and does not require other oxidising agents. The vegetable laccases are easily extracted from plants, and are cheaper than fungal laccases.
