A system for displaying waiting times for approaching buses (2) at the various bus stops (1) on a network. The system includes means for generating electromagnetic signals (8) with bus-based addresses, fixed signal receivers (9) in the displays at each stop, and, preferably, portable units (10) which also pick up said signals and can display bus waiting times at any network bus stop in response to inquiries from bearers of said units.
