Self-resetting overheating preventer for cooling circuit thermostat - uses bi-metal disk, covering perforations in thermostat valve-plate, and snapping open when overheated to re-establish circulation
Self-resetting overheating preventer for cooling circuit thermostat - uses bi-metal disk, covering perforations in thermostat valve-plate, and snapping open when overheated to re-establish circulation
The main element (6) has a perforated annular collar or valve-plate (8). The bi-metal element (5), firmly seated on the valve-plate, prevents through flow. In normal operation, with rising temp, the thermostat element forces a thrust rod (2) against a cross-head socket (4). The thermostat body (6) and valve-plate (8) rise against a return spring (7), opening the throat (9). If this does not happen, then at a certain higher temperature the preventer disk (5) snaps open, effectively allowing coolant flow. If normal operation returns, the main element rises and the bi-metal, contacting a stop (3), snaps back into its original position. USE/ADVANTAGE - For additional security in automobile and other cooling systems. When supplied with open bi-metal, facilitates initial purging.
