The body, comprising a floor, side panels, a front panel and a tailgate, has each side panel made from a single folded steel sheet (1) with vertical section in two parallel planes (A,B) and its lower edge (2) connected to the floor at two points (C,D). The outer edge of the floor are raised at an angle so that they form box-section reinforcements with the lower edge of each side panel. A second box-section reinforcement (5) is formed at the top of each side panel, and an inner skin (6) is fitted along all or part of its central section. The floor has three trapezoid-section lengthwise members on its underside, one (8) in the centre and two (7) at the sides, as well as two symmetrical rectangular-section lengthwise members (9) and a central folded steel cross-member (10) which connects the floor and side panels and the lengthwise members. ADVANTAGE - Reduced manufacturing costs by using standardised components and less welding.
