Compsn. comprises particles and/or granules of waste plastics materials, pref. having a particle size of 1-30mm and an apparent density of 90-600 kg/m3, and a hydraulic binder such as cement, plaster or lime. The compsn. is intended for mixing with water to give a pasty mass which is then dried until it hardens. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for the prodn. of lightweight building blocks, breeze blocks, slabs, partition panels, palettes for handling goods etc.. The materials have good heat and sound insulating properties, are light in weight (e.g. 500-900 kg/m3), have high compressive strength, good impact resistance and dimensional stability. They have a reduced water retention capacity compared to prior art materials contg. sawdust, so that they dry faster and with less tendency to crack formation than these. The materials utilise plastics waste materials such as disposable packaging and other plastics materials which are difficult to recycle, so that environmental pollution by dumping these waste prods. is avoided.
