The furnace comprises a furnace body surrounding a crucible contg. the material to be melted, a primary heating system provided in the furnace body, a casting channel with an entry arranged above the level of the free surface of the molten material in the crucible, and some means for feeding the molten material into the casting channel. USE/ADVANTAGE - For the melting of low m.pt. materials, including metals, metal alloys and synthetic materials for moulding operations. The furnace has an improved casting channel that avoids the risks of solidification of the molten materials without the need for excessive temp. in the furnace crucible and minimises the formation of inclusions, thus improving the quality of subsequent mouldings. The avoidance of occlusions in the casting channel also reduces maintenance operations. The furnace can be fabricated from readily available components. Since the furnace can be operated at lower temp. than furnaces conventionally used in moulding applications there are also significant energy savings.
