Compsn. contg. infinitesimal dilution of epidermal growth factor - stimulates normal cells but inhibits malignant ones and is useful in cosmetic and pharmaceutical compsns.

Biological compsn. for regulating mitosin and metabolism of cells by stimulating normal cells but inhibiting malignant ones contains as active ingredient epidermal growth factor (EGF) at infinitesimal dilutions, i.e. at a concn. below 0.1 microm but above 10 power -60 M. Pref. EGF is extracted from the submaxillary gland of mice or is recombinant human material. Dilutions are made with a solvent consisting of 20 deg. EtOH and 25 wt.% pure glycerol. Compsns. may include other active ingredients and/or excipients and are formulated as ointments, lotions emulsions etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. are useful in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. They stimulate growth of normal fibroblast but inhibit growth of malignant keratinocytes. When used at these very high dilutions, EGF has a selective action on healthy cells, avoiding the risk of stimulating growth of malignant cells.
