Crossed field mass spectrometer with high resolution - uses ion mirrors to re-inject ions into successive selector stages

At the exit of a first selector (S1) an ion mirror (M1) reflects ions to a second selector (S2) parallel to the first and then to a second mirror (M2) to reflect the ions into a third selector (S3). The mirrors are electrostatic, pref. formed by circular section cylindrical electrodes. In the second selector there is a magnetic induction (B) held by an electric field (E) to keep both the speed of the ions and the line of the ion trajectories constant. The resolution of the masses obtained is directly proportional to the length of the rectilinear separation where the fields cross. A labyrinth shape removes photons and molecules excited by noise. ADVANTAGE - Resolution of very light masses and noise removal; lightweight.
