A swimming pool made of laminated synthetic material has a lip (6) which slopes down, joined by bolts to a long box casing (2) with another similar lip (7). The casing holds a drum (3) for rolling up a floating pool cover (4). If the pool is not rectangular other sections with lips can be placed between the pool and the casing. The cover consists of hollow jointed plastics slats (11) linked together so that the cover slides over the water and covers the surface when the drum is rotated.
