A cosmetic compsn., in the form of a gel, cream, salve, unguent or lotion, contains a cosmetically active component (I) carrying a solid continuous film comprising a component which can be degraded or cleaved by the moisture of the skin. The compsn. contains a cosmetically acceptable carrier and particles of (I) of at least 2 different sizes: (A) particles of average size at least 1 micron and (B) particles of average size below 1 micron. The ratio by wt. of (I) in (A) : (I) in (B) is such that the bio-availability of (I), which is maintained with time, is relatively great when, within 24 h, the skin has the greatest need of (I) or is most receptive to (I). Pref. the particles are spherical, and particles (A) are 5-300 (30-100) microns, and (B) are 0.02-0.80 (0.1-0.7) microns. The ratio by wt. of (A) : (B) is 1 : 0.2-5 (1 : 0.8-3.5). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) may be a moisturiser, a softener, a vitamin, an anti-radical component, an anti-sun protectant, an oxidiser (claimed) and/or an enzyme. (I) is supplied substantially and continuously to the skin, and relatively strongly at the time of greatest need.
