The reservoir wall is pierced and its material pushed inside, to form a hole edged internally with a circular rim (14). The internal surface of this swaged rim is formed to fix a sealing component. The circular rim may be formed by a punch tool attached to a hydraulic cylinder piston, then tapped for a threaded stopper. The outer surface of the hole may be radiused, providing a seat for a threaded stopper with a half spherical sealing head. During the piercing and swaging operation, the tool may be sealed (11) to the wall, with a pump connection, for capture and removal of the fluid. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple, low cost recovery of Freon or R12 refrigerant from compressors.
