The stopper consists of a central cylinder and a series of flat rings (6) of a supple material which are stacked on the central cylinder. The rings are between 3 and 5 times the dia. of the stopper's central core, and are in the form of pleated or corrugated collars with their folds formed by sections of different thicknesses. The rings are made from a biocompatible material which has a low limit of elasticity and a substantial degree of plastic deformation, for example, a natural or synthetic biocompatible polymer such as a medical grade polyethylene with a very high molecular weight, a collagen or gelatin. USE/ADVANTAGE - Blocking the medullary canal in a bone such as a femur. Reduced amount of cement required for fitting a prosthesis, and also makes replacement of prosthesis more convenient.
