The device has a baseplate (10) for locating on a table or other support surface, with a telescopic shaft (11) extending vertically upwards. A signal or indicator (12) disc is attached to the end of the telescopic shaft. The signal disc may carry indicia or an illustration, and may be removable from the end of the shaft. It may also include a luminous or luminescent element. The shaft is secured to the baseplate by means of an elastic clip (14) whose two jaws bear directly against the base component of the shaft.
