Syringe, made from plastic, comprises a barrel with a hollow plunger (1) designed to contain the syringe needle after use. The inlet to the plunger is through an aperture in its upper end, while transverse holes beneath its flange (2) allow the needle cap to be inserted, retaining the needle reliably inside the plunger. The needle cap can have an annular groove to engage with a chamfered edge on one of the holes so that the holder is held in place once inserted through the holes. In a variant of the design, the needle holder can be pushed lengthwise into the end of the plunger after the needle, and the plunger top can have an opening cap. In another variant, the plunger can have a V-shaped cross-section, and the needle inserted into its recess from the side after use. ADVANTAGE - Avoids risk of accidental pricking with syringe needle and transmission of diseases such as AIDS.
