The speed sensor is for use on a motor vehicle (1) equipped with a leading deflector (2) which is pivoted about a transverse axis (12) such that it is lowered with increasing vehicle speed. The movement of the leading deflector (2) is restrained by a spring (21) attached to a second transverse axis (22). A piston (32) attached to the second transverse axis (22) displaces fluid (H) in a pivoting (132) cylinder (31) in proportion to the deflector displacement and vehicle speed. The displaced fluid (H) is conveyed (34) to a hydraulic jack (5) to raise the rear deflector (4). ADVANTAGE - Operation of rear deflector of vehicle is obtained directly from movement of leading deflector in response to vehicle speed thus simplifying and lightening ancillary equipment.
