Structural adhesive which is curable using ionic radiation comprises: (i) 40-94 wt.% of resin having functional gp(s). reactive under ionising radiation; (ii) 5-40 wt.% of powdered filler; (iii) 0-20 wt.% of elastomeric reinforcing agent; (iv) 0-20 wt.% adhesion promoter; and (v) 1-30 wt.% reactive diluent comprising at least one ethylenically functional monomer. Also claimed is the assembly of two materials involving coating one surface of one material with the above adhesive, placing the second material on top and curing. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for assembling composite/composite composite/rubber, rubber/rubber and metal/metal materials, partic. in the aeronautical, automobile and sporting industries. Provides lightweight pieces with high mechanical strength.
