The protection is provided for a card insertion slot (2) that is formed in a wall (1). The slot is closed by a round bar (6) laid across the slot. The round bar is held in place between (5) two walls so that it can rise to allow entry of the card. When the card is withdrawn the bar falls under its own weight to fill the slot, resting on the top of the lower wall (1). The lower edge of the slot is chamfered to facilitate the insertion of the edge of the card under the edge of the round rod. The rod rotates as the card is inserted, minimising wear on the card surface. ADVANTAGE - Very simply constructed and reliable mechanism for protection of card entry slot against entry of dust and moisture.
