The device (1) for measuring strains or mechanical deformations in a medium (5) comprises: - at least one magnetoelastic sensor (3) having a ferromagnetic resonance frequency omega r depending on the strains applied to the said sensor, which is inserted into the medium (5) where the strains are to be measured; - means for magnetically saturating the said sensor (3), producing ferromagnetic resonance; and - means (11, 19) for coupling the sensor (3) to a microwave frequency analyser (7), detecting the ferromagnetic resonant frequency omega r of the said sensor (3) as a function of the strains (T) set up in the medium (5).
