The invention relates to a vessel with a double hull, an external hull (6) and an internal hull (7), each braced longitudinally and transversely by stringers (10'), (10''), (11'), (11''), the inertia of which to bending is improved by separating them 2 by 2 by distance pieces (12). The method of production is based on prefabrication by blocks of the two hulls which are then brought close to one another and connected by distance pieces which are spaced and arranged in the zone of less bending stress. The positioning of the stringers and the welding of the distance pieces are automated thanks to a special robot which travels on the wings of the longitudinal stringers (10') or (10''). In addition to increasing the strength of the hull, this design makes possible the prefabrication in a workshop of very large blocks which is very economical in terms of labour. IMAGE
