The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-propanone derivatives which comprises the reaction of an anion derived from a 2-propanone, corresponding for example to the formula: IMAGE in which Z is O, S or Se, E is P, As or Sb and R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are hydrogen atoms or optionally substituted hydrocarbon groups, with a halide of phosphine, arsine or stibine, for example a halide of formula: IMAGE where Y is P, As or Sb. A derivative of formula: IMAGE which can be used as a Wittig reagent and/or as a metal complexing agent, is thus obtained. Process for the preparation of 2-propanone, 2-thiopropanone and 2-selenopropanone derivatives, in particular 3-phosphino-1-phosphoranylidene-2-propanone derivatives, and phosphines thus obtained.
