An abrasive tool comprising a metal, ceramic or cemented carbide substrate and a single layer of cubic boron nitride grits bonded to said substrate by a brazing alloy, characterised in that the CBN grits are modified by depositing thereon a film of Si carbide or other carbides containing elements of the group IV A of the periodic table. The silicon carbide coating may be applied by chemical vapour deposition. The brazing alloy may be a nickel or cobalt based alloy containing at least one of the transition elements Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo or W.
