PURPOSE: To improve the fire resistance, sound insulating performance and specific strength by adding a specified activated MgO to a suspension slurry contg. wollastonite or slag wool. ;CONSTITUTION: The wollastonite or slag wool crushed to 10-100 mesh is dipped in 1.3-2.0 weight times 2-10% dil. sulfuric acid, heated to 50-70°C, agitated to gel the surface and swollen to obtain a suspension slurry A with the CaO-to-SiO₂ molar ratio controlled to 0.8-1.2 and consisting of the dil. sulfuric acid-treated fibrous calcium silicate having 3-30 aspect ratio. Microcrystalline magnesite is calcined at 650-950°C to obtain an activated MgO B having 100-500Å crystal grain diameter. 20 to 80wt.% of the component A and 80-20wt.% of the component B are mixed so that the component A is made basic, and a composite material contg. sulfate group in the amt. equivalent to 1/4 to 1/6mol of the component B is obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
