PURPOSE:To manufacture a shape steel which maintains the intrinsic corrosion resistance of stainless steel and satisfies the strength standard as a structural material for building by hot-working an austenitic stainless steel billet in specified temp. conditions and then subjecting the steel to solution heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic stainless steel billet having a compsn. composed of, by wt.%, 0.06% C, 1% Si, 0.3-2.0%Mn, 0.04% P, 0.03% S, 17.0-20.0% Cr, 7.0-10.5% Ni, 0.06-0.14% N, and further one or two or more elements of 0.05-0.70% Mo, 0.005-0.08% Nb, 0.005-0.15% V, 0.10-0.50% Cu, and 0.005-0.60% Ti is heated at =1000 deg.C and hot rolled under the temp. condition of 600 deg.C to 900 deg.C finish temp. to form a building steel material such as H section, angle, channel steel sheet piling, etc. Then the formed steel material is subjected to solution heat treatment at 900 to 1100 deg.C. Thus, the stainless shape steel having not only the intrinsic corrosion resistance of stainless steel but also the strength standard as a structural material for building is manufactured.
