PURPOSE: To discolor a rush and a rush product capable of inexpensively and simply performing waste water treatment while holding sufficient strength by a simple process using an ethylene glycol derivative. ;CONSTITUTION: A discolored rush and a discolored rush product are obtained through a process supporting an ethylene glycol derivative on a rush and a rush product and a process irradiating the rush and the rush product with direct sunlight or light having the same conditions as the direct sunlight. A solution or dispersion prepared by dissolving or dispersing the ethylene glycol derivative in water or a proper solvent is infiltrated in the rush and the rush products and the impregnated rush and the rush product are irradiated with direct sunlight or light having the same conditions as the sunlight to discolor the rush and the rush product.
