PURPOSE: To obtain a linear copolycarbonate having high solvent resistance by combining hydroquinone carbonate structural units with bisphenol carbonate structural units. ;CONSTITUTION: The solvent-resistant linear copolycarbonate comprises at least 40%, desirably at least 50% hydroquinone carbonate structural units represented by formula I and bisphenol carbonate structural units represented by formula II [wherein A' is a bisphenol A residue or a 6,6'-dihydroxy-3,3,3',3'- tetramethylspirobishydantoin residue represented by formula III or IV (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-4C prim. or sec. alkyl or a 6-10C aryl; R3 is a 1-4C prim. or sec. alkyl or a halogen; m is 0-4; and n is 0-3]). This polycarbonate is produced by bringing an oligomer comprising I and II (of a degree of polymerization of 2-30, desirably 15 or below) into contact with a tetraaryl borate catalyst at 350°C or below.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
