PURPOSE:To obtain a material excellent in flexibility, mechanical properties, and formability into fabric on cord by adjusting the degree of wetting of a fibrous reinforcement with a thermoplastic resin to impact a suitable rigidity to the resulting composite material. CONSTITUTION:This material comprises a fibrous reinforcement and a thermoplastic resin and satisfies the relations of formulas I, II, and III [wherein alphais the ratio of the number (B) of monofilaments of the reinforcement of which at least one half of the periphery is wet with the resin to the total number (A) of monofilaments existing in the vrtical section of the material; beta is the ratio of the number (B') of monofilaments (B') of which the whole periphery is wet with the resin to the total number (A) of monofilaments; E is the elongation modulus (kgf/mm2) of the monofilament; S is the sectional area (mm2) of the monofilament; A is the total number of monofilaments existing in the above-mentioned section; and D is one half of the thickness (mm) of the section].
