CONSTITUTION:This gene useful e.g. for introducing into a plant such as street tree to effect the breeding of a plant having improved cleaning capability of air-polluting NO2, etc., and a crop having low content of carcinogenic nitrosamines can be produced by growing a poplar on vermiculite to the height of about 20cm, continuously irradiating the plant with light of 10,000Lux for 2 days, applying 60mM KNO3 to produce mRNA, collecting the green leaves, crushing the leaves in liquid nitrogen, extracting RNA by guanidine thiocyanate method, separating mRNA from the RNA, synthesizing a cDNA by using the mRNA as a template, subjecting the cDNA to restriction enzyme treatment to form a cDNA library, screening the library with a probe to select a clone containing a nitrous acid reductase gene, recovering the DNA and subjecting to the restriction enzyme treatment.
