PURPOSE:To simplify the movement and correction of a character and to prevent a part of the character from being left unpainted by forming a buffer memory for one character and a buffer memory for one element. CONSTITUTION:A character or an element to be stored in the buffer memory 4 or 5 is processed by the function of an arithmetic circuit 6 as follows. Namely, whether the vector direction of an intersecting part between the outline of the character or the element and a scanning line is positive or negative is decided. A value '+1' is outputted when the vector direction is positive or '-1' is outputted in the case of a negative vector direction and the output value is added. In the case other than the added result is '0', a dot signal '1' is outputted and the inside of the outline of the character or the element is painted out with black. When the added result is '0', a dot signal '0' is outputted and the outside of the outline of the character or the element is painted out with white.
