REASSEMBLING SYSTEM USING IP ROUTER ROUTER

摘要

PURPOSE: To reduce the load on a network by enabling an IP router to reassemble a datagram based on the maximum transfer unit when the datagram passe through the networks of different maximum transfer units. ;CONSTITUTION: The maximum transfer unit MTU set between IP routers 28 and 29 is set at 8KB which is different from a datagram 26 of 7KB when the datagram 26 is sent to a TCP 25 of a destination host Host 2' from a TCP 24 of a source host Host 1'. Under such conditions, the router 28 sends the datagram 26 to an IP 29 as the final datagram 33 of 7KB and without fragmenting the datagram 26. If the MTU is set at 3KB between IP routers 29 and 30, the datagram 26 is fragmented and reassembled and then sent to a router 30. In the same way, the datagram is reassembled by each router so that the number of datagram passing through the networks of different MTUs can be minimized and the network load can be reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
