PURPOSE: To reduce power consumption by employing a pair of switching system inductors constituted such that the counter-electromotive force induced in one inductor at the time of switching is absorbed by the other inductor through conduction of a normally interrupted diode thereby enabling the fourth quadrant operation while reducing the size. ;CONSTITUTION: When a switch 31A is turned ON and a switch 31B is turned OFF, a positive DC current flows through an inductor 32A and a voltage is applied to a load. Diodes 33A, 33B are interrupted at that time. When the switch 31A is turned OFF and the switch 31B is turned ON, a counter-electromotive force is inducted in the inductor 32A by the stored electromagnetic energy and a positive current begins to flow. Consequently, the potential on the side of negative power supply terminal 38 increases instantaneously over the potential at the-terminal of the inductor 32A and the diode 33B is conducted. A closed loop is formed thereby and the counter-electromotive force is absorbed by the inductor 32B.
