PURPOSE: To accurately and quickly measure refractive indexes of atmospheric gases in each parallel plane layers by separating global periphery into an atmospheric gas layer and radio wave straight-advancing layer, dividing the atmospheric gas layer into n plane layers, obtaining respective refractive indexes of the atmospheric gases with an aid of the received radio wave from a satellite, and solving a formula having them as a variable. ;CONSTITUTION: The radiation time of radio wave is generated by a time signal generator 5 and it is converted into a modulation signal, then the signal is sent out from an antenna 1 via a transmitter 2. In addition, the generator 5 receives a reception radio wave by a receiver 3 through the antenna 1, and after the signal is demodulated, the generator 5 determines/establishes its arrival time to the antenna 1, then it adds the arrival signal to the end of the demodulation signal and sends it to an electronic computer 8. An antenna elevation angle measuring device 6 measures the elevation angle and azimuth of the antenna 1 with a specified interval of time and sends the results to a detection direction signal device 5 to determine the generation time of the direction signal, then the device 5 adds the time to the end of the direction signal and sends it to the computer 8. The device 8 processes the signal sent through an interface 7 and finds out the refractive indexes of atmospheric gases in respective plane layers which are parallel to horizontal faces passing each stations.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
