PURPOSE: To improve melt-damage resistance of a refractory by mixing ZrSiO4 with one or more nitrides selected from Si3N4, sialon, BN and AlN at a specific weight ratio and baking the mixture after forming. ;CONSTITUTION: One or more kinds of nitrides selected from Si3N4, sialon, BN and AlN are heat-treated at about 1000-1900°C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The heat-treated nitride powder is mixed with respective specific amounts of ZrSiO4 powder and optionally bentonite powder and the mixture is formed and sintered at 900-1700°C in an oxidizing atmosphere such as air to obtain a nitride refractory composed of 10-85wt.% of ZrSiO4, about 1-70wt.% of bentonite and the remaining part of nitrides.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
