PURPOSE: To provide a highly accurate time-interval measuring apparatus, which can measure a broad measuring range in high accuracy and whose safety is improved. ;CONSTITUTION: A pseudo-random signal generated with a signal generating part 2 under the control of a measuring/controlling part 1 is converted into an optical pulse with a light sending part 3. A light measuring signal is sent into a reflecting part 4, and a reference light signal is sent into a light receiving/ correlation part 6. The light measuring signal, which is reflected and sent back from the reflecting part 4, and the reference light signal, which is sent from the sending part 3, are received with the light receiving/correlation part 6, and correlation operation is performed. The correlation value as a result of operation is outputted. The correlation value is processed with a signal processing part 5. The result is notified to the signal generating part 2 as the feedback signal for frequency control. As the result of the feedback control, the oscillator frequency of the signal generating part 2 when a balance point is reached is read with the measuring/controlling part 1, and the propagating time of the light measuring signal is computed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
