COMMON-USE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR MAGNETIC TAPE LIBRARY DEVICE

PURPOSE: To enable different kinds of host computers to share a magnetic tape library device by providing an independent processor with the management information of the magnetic tape library device and allowing the respective host computers to exchange control information through the standard interface parts of a line or a local area network, etc. ;CONSTITUTION: A multivender system which has the host computers 10 of plural makers allows the different kinds of host computers to share the same magnetic tape library device 24 without making the magnetic tape library device 24 stick to the kinds of the host computers 10. Further, when a mount request has arisen on a magnetic tape 26 other than the magnetic tape library device, an operator is urged to insert the magnetic tape 26 into the magnetic tape library device 10 and a processing is carried out to eliminate the need to install a magnetic tape device deck outside the magnetic tape library device.
