PURPOSE: To improve the identification precision of rock types and rock classes and to permit even a person who does not have technical knowledge to objectively evaluate a bearock in short time by replacing the color vectors of respective picture elements with those of a maximum value so as to express them as feature colors. ;CONSTITUTION: Tunnel facing is photographed by a still video camera 1 and is recorded into a floppy disk 2. A still video player 3 reproduces the floppy disk and facing picture data is inputted to a computer 4. The computer 4 converts the R, G and B original signals of a color picture into a luminance signal and a color difference signal based on a standard television signal. Chroma is obtained from the color difference signals of the respective picture elements, it is expressed by the color vectors and the distribution of hues is expressed by color angles. The color vectors of the respective picture elements are replaced with those of the maximum value, and they are expressed as the feature colors being the colors of maximum chroma. Thus, they can easy to be recognized by the eyesight of man, and the rock type and the rock class can be identified from the difference of the hues.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
