DIATOMITE-PERLITE COMPOUND FILTER AID AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE: To produce a filter aid improved in compressibility and high bulk density by mixing baked diatomite, with perlite pulverized by thermal foaming and adding thereto a binder, drying the mixture, and heat it. ;CONSTITUTION: A baked or a flux-baked diatomite is mixed with the pulverized perlite. Then, a binder such as water, water glass, colloidal silica or phosphate is added to this mixture. Further, this mixture is dried, then the grain size is adjusted to less than 40 mesh. The mixture is then heated at 200 to 1050°C for about 1 to 20 minutes, so that the bands between the diatomite particles and the perlite particles are further increased. In addition, these bound particles are roughly crushed and classified again, and the grain size is adjusted to less than 60 mesh. As a result, a diatomite-perlite compound filter aid is obtained, which maintains the homogeneity of cake and its performance for a long time, due to the mutual binding between the particles of the diatomite and those of the perlite.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
