PURPOSE:To enable easy and quick detection of a ground fault point without climbing a pole, by disposing a detector in interlinkage to a magnetic flux generated around a conductor which leads a pulse current to the ground and by detecting the polarity of an induction voltage generated in the detector. CONSTITUTION:A pulse of high voltage is impressed between a distribution line and the ground 11. When it is assumed that a ground fault occurs in an insulator 17, a pulse current (i) passes through a pole 14 and a magnetic flux phi is generated around the pole 14. When a coil-shaped detector 22 is set at a position A and put in interlinkage to the magnetic flux phi, positive and negative induction voltages are generated at terminals 22a and 22b of the detector 22 respectively. Next, the detector 22 is set at a position B opposite to the position A with the pole 14 held between and in the same direction as the position A, and is put in interlinkage to the magnetic flux phi. Then the negative and positive induction voltages are generated at the terminals 22a and 22b reversely to those at the position A. In other words, the polarities of the induction voltages generated initially at the two terminals of the detector 22 are reverse. By detecting these polarities, accordingly, a ground fault point can be detected.
