METHOD FOR SUPPRESSING SYMPTOM OF PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME/LATTER LUTEAL PHASE DYSPHORIA DISEASE

PURPOSE: To obtain a pharmaceutical composition, containing a 2-phenyl-3- aroylbenzothiophene or its salt or solvate as an active ingredient and useful for inhibiting symptoms of premenstrual syndrome/late luteal phase dysphoric disorders. CONSTITUTION: This composition contains a 2-phenyl-3-aroylbenzothiophene represented by formula I [R1 and R3 are each CH3 , a CO-(1-6C alkyl) or a CO-Ar (Ar is phenyl which may be substituted); R2 is pyrrolidino, hexamethyleneimino or piperidino] or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate as an active ingredient and is capable of inhibiting symptoms of premenstrual syndrome/late luteal phase dysphoric disorders. A compound represented by formula II or its hydrochloride, is especially preferred as the compound represented by formula I. The daily dose of the compound represented by formula I is preferably about 50-600 mg. The pharmaceutical composition is suitable for prophylactic administration.
