PURPOSE: To manufacture a contact lens, which is excellent in optical properties and has a smooth surface not to injure the cornea, by a method wherein a recessed part or a projected part is formed at the position outside the determin ing part of the outer periphery of the contact lens on the base curve forming surface of a male mold. ;CONSTITUTION: In a male mold, on its base curve forming surface 8, a recessed part 9, which positions outside the determining part of the periphery of a contact lens, is formed circumferentially. When polymerizable monomer is charged in a cavity, the poolymerizable monomner flows even in the recessed part on the base curve forming surface so as to fill the recessed part. In succession, by polymerizing and hardening the polymerizable monomer, the semifinished article 11 of a lens having the recessed part filled is obtained. By forming the recessed part at the position outside the determining part of the outer periphery of the contact lens on the base curve forming surfce, polymerizable monomer enters and fills the recessed part at the charging of the polymerizable monomer in a cavity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
