METHOD FOR DRAINING STERN TUBE SEALING DEVICE IN CONTRAROTATING PROPELLER VESSEL AND DRAIN PIPE CONSTRUCTION

PURPOSE: To enable a stern tube sealing device for use in a contrarotating propeller vessel to be drained without using a drain pump. ;CONSTITUTION: In a contrarotating propeller vessel, the drain of the drain chamber 30 of an inner-shaft rear-part sealing device 11 is introduced into the drain chamber 31 of an outside-shaft rear-part sealing device 13 via a drain communicating passage 29 formed in a seal liner 11b, via a drain pipe 25 formed in a rear inner shaft bearing 7, and via a drain introducing communicating passage 27 formed in the seal liner 13b of the outside-shaft rear part sealing device 13, and is discharged into an engine room from the drain chamber 31 via a drain pipe 17 so as to shorten a draining system and to thereby enable the drain in the drain chamber 30 to be naturally expelled by gravity.
