PURPOSE: To obtain an improving method capable of making the system of an existing printer interchangeable and reducing jaggedness by a simple mechanism by forming an intermediate pattern of a specific C×D bits from an initial pattern and correcting the same by rule action at the time of alignment with a rule pattern to form an improved bit pattern before printing a final image. ;CONSTITUTION: An intermediate pattern of C×D bits of C=A and D=B is formed from an initial pattern and it is judged whether the intermediate pattern is aligned with one rule pattern among a plurality of rule patterns. Next, when the intermediate pattern is aligned with the rule pattern, at least one rule action is adapted from a plurality of rule actions to correct the intermediate pattern and the improved bit pattern corresponding to a final image is formed.
