PURPOSE:To provide an inference method utilizing the superior/inferior relation of knowledge for calculating a covering degree corresponding to the contents of a viewpoint. CONSTITUTION:In this inference method utilizing the superior/inferior relation of the knowledge for which an inference rule 1 is applied to the knowledge B based on the covering degree which is a value to be larger as the degree of similarity between the knowledge A and the knowledge B becomes larger and a difference between the abstract degree of the knowledge A and the abstract degree of the knowledge B becomes smaller when the abstract degree 4 of the knowledge A is larger than the abstract degree 4 of the knowledge B an the time of applying the inference rule 1 relating to the knowledge A to the knowledge B, a 'condition' where a field and a problem handled by inference are placed or the 'progress' of the inference performed by the time is defined as a viewpoint, the covering degree between the knowledge is calculated based on the viewpoint and the propriety of applying the inference rule relating to the knowledge A to the knowledge B is judged by the covering degree.
