HIGH STRENGTH AND HIGH TOUGHNESS AL2O3-BASED CERAMICS AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

摘要

PURPOSE: To enhance the strength and toughness by sintering a compact of a powdery Al₂O₃-TiO₂, mixture in a reducing atmosphere and heat-treating the sintered compact in a specified atmosphere. ;CONSTITUTION: A powdery Al₂O₃ TiO₂, mixture is compacted to obtain a compact. This compact is sintered by heating at 1,300-1,600°C for 2-6hr in a reducing atmosphere under $10^-5 partial pressure of oxygen and the sintered compact is heat-treated at 500-1,500°C in an atmosphere under a higher partial pressure of oxygen than that during the sintering to obtain the objective Al₂O₃-based ceramics contg. fine acicular TiO₂ dispersed in particle of polycrystalline Al₂O₃ having ≤10μm particle diameter orientation in the (0001) faces of Al₂O₃ crystals.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
