PURPOSE: To easily utilize the superior nonlinear optical effect of β-BaB2O4 (BBO) crystals without bringing difficulties in the production and working of a BBO single crystal by uniformly dispersing BBO microcrystals in a glass matrix. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective transparent crystallized glass for nonlinear optical material is obtd. by uniformly dispersing BBO microcrystals in a glass matrix. This transparent crystallized glass has a structure contg. fine BBO grains uniformly dispersed in the matrix having a glass phase and has transparency even after crystal deposition. Since BBO crystals are liable to deposit from the surface of glass, it is usually difficult to obtain transparent crystallized glass but this crystallized glass is produced by heat-treating glass having a certain compsn. range under certain conditions. This compsn. range consists basically of, by mol, 40-60% BaO, 35-55% B2O3 and 5-15% Al2O3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
