VIDEO CODING METHOD BY AUTOMATIC MOTION SEARCH RANGE ADJUSTMENT WITH RESPECT TO MOTION ESTIMATION

PURPOSE: To obtain a video coding method which a motion search range is adjusted according to the magnitude of motion and the processing time is reduced while keeping excellent motion prediction. ;CONSTITUTION: After all motion vectors are checked, a motion retrieval range to be a base is set based on the magnitude of the motion vectors. A matching block is retrieved within the motion retrieval range to obtain a minimum prediction error. Whether the minimum prediction error is smaller than a threshold is checked, and the motion retrieval range is extended to be adaptive from the base range or unchanged depending on the result of check.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
