PRODUCTION OF LIGNAN GLYCOSIDE AND LIGNANS

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a large quantity of lignan glycosides by humidifying or culturing sesame seeds to effect germination and converting the germinated seeds into a ground product or defatted lees, which is then extracted with a hydrous alcohol. ;CONSTITUTION: Unparched or unheated sesame seeds as raw material are humidified or cultured to effect germination and increase the lignan glycoside in the seeds; the germinated seeds are converted into a ground product or defatted lees, which is then put to extraction with a hydrous alcohol (e.g. hydrous methanol) to obtain the objective lignan glycosides which are water-soluble glycoside lignans consisting mainly of di- and/or triglycoside lignans with two or three molecules of glucose linked to one another. Oil-soluble lignans consisting mainly of sesaminol can be obtained by acting an enzyme (e.g. β-glucosidase) having lignan glycoside-hydrolyzing activity prepared from sesame seeds on the hydrous alcohol extract.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
