Treatment of a solid phase formed during treatment of water containing heavy metals, by the action of hydroxides according to the invention based on the fact that suspensions having a pH higher than 7.5 are subjected to ageing and separation of the solid phase. The solid phase is separated and brought into contact with other waste water and hydroxides, the occurring suspension then undergoes re-crystallisation and sedimentation of the solid phase, which is again recycled into the process for cleaning other waste water.
