An optical method involving natural light and infrared radiation reflection and emission is used to distinguish between the ground (5) and the plants (4a,4b). Different water evaporation is used at equal and different temp. The different intensities arising from the ground and plants are detected by optical sensors (1) mounted on an operating device.The ground-plant difference and the identities and locations of the different plants are derived from the intensities.
